The Society of Adventist Philosophers invites submissions for papers and panels to be presented at its annual symposium.
Theme: The Invisible Hand?: Christ and the Free Markets
Keynote speaker: William Cavanaugh, PhD
Date: November 16, 2017
Location: Boston, MA (Ellie Wiesel Center for Judaic Studies)
In a world of hyper globalization and consumerism, what can philosophy contribute to our understanding of the market? Amid growing inequality and scarcity, what can Christianity contribute to a just philosophy of economics?
We welcome presentations and panels dealing with the prospects and perils of capitalism, practically & theoretically.
Possible figures/topics include (but are not limited to):
- Adam Smith
- Karl Marx
- The Frankfurt School
- Consumerism
- Liberation theology
- Sabbath economics
- Economics and healthcare
- Economic justice
- Economics and politics
- Economics and race
Submission Guidelines:
Papers, paper abstracts, and panel proposals of up to 300 words should be submitted by July 31, 2017 to adventistphilosophy@gmail.com. Paper length should not exceed 10 pages, double-spaced, or 3000 words.
Notice of acceptance will be sent by August 15, 2017.
